Randolph-Macon College’s Student Engagement Center: Fostering Support and Innovation
Wondering what the SEC is? Here’s how to engage!
Located on the second floor of Brock Commons, the Student Engagement Center (SEC) is a pivotal resource that embodies the institution’s dedication to student success and holistic growth. Serving as a multifaceted hub of support and co-curricular opportunities, the SEC caters to a diverse range of student needs, cultivating a vibrant and inclusive community.
Central to the SEC’s goals are its commitment to enhancing student experiences. From facilitating student involvement in organizations to providing competition in Yellow Jacket Varsity Esports, the SEC offers an array of resources tailored to individual needs. Whether students seek guidance in navigating fraternity and sorority life or crave opportunities for social and inclusive engagement events, the SEC serves as a key resource in their journey.
A cornerstone program of the SEC is the SERVE Program, empowering students to make meaningful contributions to their communities through service-oriented initiatives. Moreover, the SEC is at the forefront of leadership development, offering various programs designed to hone students’ abilities and nurture their potential as future change-makers. From the Leadership Fellows Program to the RMC Adventure: Outdoor Leadership Program, these initiatives provide students with the tools and insights necessary to excel both inside and outside the classroom.
“Innovative student experiences and unwavering support are at the core of Randolph-Macon College’s Student Engagement Center. We are committed to empowering our students to reach their goals by providing them with the tools, resources, and guidance they need to navigate challenges and seize opportunities,” affirms Dr. James McGhee, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs & Associate Dean of Students at Randolph-Macon College.
In addition to its focus on student engagement and leadership, the SEC emphasizes support for students’ spiritual and interfaith journeys. Through diverse programs and initiatives, students are encouraged to explore their beliefs, engage in meaningful dialogue, and foster connections within a diverse and inclusive community.
A vital part of the services offered by the Student Engagement Center (SEC) is our Residence Life team who manages the residential student experience with round-the-clock support from our dedicated on-call professional staff during the academic year. Whether it’s addressing maintenance issues, providing support and resources, or fostering a sense of community, our team is committed to ensuring that students feel supported, and valued in their residential environment. Students also have access to the valuable support of Resident Assistants (RAs), peers who live in the hall and serve as mentors and role models for their fellow students. RAs play a pivotal role in building community within the residence halls, organizing events, and connecting students to resources on campus
“Living on campus provides college students with opportunities to develop essential life skills while fostering their growth through experiences like managing relationships, overcoming challenges, and adapting to new environments. Being in such close proximity to peers and support services facilitates social connections and a sense of belonging that deeply enhances their RMC experience,” noted Sara Weinstein, Assistant Dean of Students..
The SEC also supports commuter students, ensuring they feel connected and valued within the RMC community. Furthermore, the SEC addresses students’ basic needs through initiatives such as the Hull Closet and RMC Cares, alleviating financial burdens and fostering a culture of compassion and support.
Finally, Randolph-Macon College’s Student Engagement Center Team stands ready to be a partner with you students cheering them on and providing resources to promote their success and well-being.
