RMC Hosts Orientation for New Students (VIDEO)

Orientation at Randolph-Macon College is an opportunity for the RMC community to welcome new students and their families and help them familiarize themselves with their new home on campus and all that the college offers.

Orientation was held June 10, 2016. The day-long program included guided tours of the campus, special sessions on academics and campus life, and lunch in Estes Dining Hall. Students and parents started the day at the Frank E. Brown Plaza, where they were greeted by RMC President Robert R. Lindgren.

“What a great privilege it is for me to welcome our new students and families from the Class of 2020,” said Lindgren. “We at Randolph-Macon are absolutely committed to giving you the tools and personal support you need to succeed, to help you realize your potential, and then to help you graduate with a competitive advantage—what we call the Randolph-Macon Edge—when pursuing careers or graduate school. You are part of an impressive entering class: one of our largest, and arguably the most talented, we have ever had here. Congratulations.”

New students registered for classes, got to know one another and toured the campus with an orientation leader. Current students, along with staff, were on hand to talk about the dozens of campus organizations and clubs that RMC offers, and to raise awareness about the many services available to students. Orientation participants also received RMC identification cards and campus mailing addresses. While the future Yellow Jackets familiarized themselves with the college and campus life, their parents participated in a separate orientation. They received information on financial aid, internships, study abroad, disability services and more, and had the opportunity to ask questions of faculty and staff.

Four-Year Degree Guarantee
During the two-day orientation program, Lindgren, Provost William Franz and other key administrators met with students and parents in Birdsong Hall to discuss and sign the Four-Year Guarantee partnership agreement. This unique program pledges in writing that freshmen who meet the Four-Year Degree Guarantee requirements will graduate within four calendar years. If not, Randolph-Macon will waive tuition costs for RMC courses needed to complete the degree.
