New Student Registration Day is an opportunity for the Randolph-Macon College community to welcome new students and their families. The event, which took place on June 21 and 24, 2019, included special sessions on academics and campus life, and lunch near the Fountain. Students and their families started the day at the Frank E. Brown Fountain Plaza, where they were greeted by RMC President Robert R. Lindgren.

“What a great privilege it is for me to welcome our new students and families from the Class of 2023,” said Lindgren. “We at Randolph-Macon are absolutely committed to giving you the tools and personal support you need to succeed. I hope you a have productive and enjoyable day and that you leave our campus later this afternoon even more excited about returning in August and beginning a new and important adventure in your lives.”

Connections
New Yellow Jackets registered for classes, got to know one another and became familiar with their home-away-from-home, with student leaders—known as Captains—serving as guides.

Current students, along with staff, were on hand to talk about the dozens of campus organizations and clubs that RMC offers, and to discuss the many services available to students. New students also learned about the EDGE, RMC’s four-year career preparation program; received one-on-one academic advising and an overview of support services; met with Residence Life staff; and had their questions answered by current students.

While the new students familiarized themselves with the college and campus life, their parents participated in a separate orientation. They received information on financial aid, internships, study abroad, academic support and more, and had the opportunity to ask questions of students, administrators and staff.

Annie Keith ’01, director of New Student Orientation & Transitions, says New Student Registration Day is about connections.

“New Student Registration Day connects students with our faculty, who provide advising for fall classes; it connects students with Captains who will help them navigate their first year; and perhaps most importantly, it connects new students with each other. Similarly, families spend the day connecting with members of our community to better understand the opportunities and resources that will be available to their students.”

Four-Year Degree Guarantee
During orientation, Lindgren and other key administrators met with students and their families in Birdsong Hall to discuss and sign the Four-Year Degree Guarantee partnership agreement. This unique program pledges in writing that freshmen who meet the Four-Year Degree Guarantee requirements will graduate within four calendar years. If not, Randolph-Macon will waive tuition costs for RMC courses needed to complete the degree.
