International Students Receive Honors
Randolph-Macon College honored international students during a special ceremony for members of the Davis United World College (UWC) Scholars Program on November 3, 2021. UWC Scholars are presented with crystal globes, usually during their freshman year, to recognize their status as exceptional students who graduated from a UWC high school before matriculating to RMC.
The following recipients were awarded their globes as sophomores due to last year’s event being canceled:
- Daniel Franco Sugano ’24 (Business major, Communications minor), from Brazil, who attended UWC ISAK Japan in Nagano, Japan
- Tajra Karabasic ’24 (Business and Political Science double-major, Economics minor), from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who attended UWC Mostar in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Benjamin Selimotic ’24 (Political Science and German double-major), from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who attended UWC Mostar in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Abu Waligo ’24 (Computer Science and Economics double-major, Mathematics minor), from eSwatini, who attended Waterford Kamhlaba UWC of South Africa in Mbabane, eSwatini
- Nina Ivanovic ’24 (Psychology and Political Science double-major), from Montenegro, who attended UWC Mostar in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Tess Adams ’24 (undecided), from Barbados, who attended UWC Adriatic in Duino Trieste, Italy
- Zarin Ahmed ’24 (undecided), from Iraq, who attended UWC Red Cross Nordic in Flekke, Norway
“International students are invaluable assets to the diversity of the Randolph-Macon community, and the Davis United World Scholars Program continues to be a significant part of that contribution,” said Director of International Education Mayumi Nakamura. “The College is grateful for our long-term partnership with UWC over the past 12 years, and we look forward to continuing that relationship for many more years to come.”
