eSports Expanding for Fall 2021

The Randolph-Macon College eSports Program is pleased to announce that the Yellow Jackets will be competing in two additional varsity eSports, beginning Fall 2021. We are very excited to add Super Smash Brothers and Madden to our program.

As a member of the National Association of Collegiate eSports, Randolph-Macon currently competes in six sports including League of Legends, Overwatch, Hearthstone, Fortnite, Rocket League, and Counter Strike: Global Offensive. The addition of Super Smash Brothers and Madden will enhance intercollegiate competition and will expand our ability to recruit amazing eSports athletes from across the country.

The RMC eSports Program began its first official season in 2018 offering competition in three collegiate eSports and has doubled in size from 2018 to 2021 in terms of eSports offered and number of eSports athletes competing in intercollegiate competition. The eSports Program is generously supported by the Brock Venture Fund as well as sponsors Velocity Micro and Bawls Guarana.

The culture of the Randolph-Macon College eSports Program is defined by its commitment to growing the talents of eSports athletes through education, training, and a community of support that feels like family. The talents of each athlete are matched intentionally with other athletes to create winning teams.

“eSports is special, because it provides everyone who is willing to work hard and has a positive attitude the opportunity to compete and represent our College. The addition of Super Smash Brothers and Madden will help us give even more students the opportunity to participate in a top rate program and be part of our Yellow Jacket eSports family,” said Alex Gunnerson, director of eSports.

James McGhee, assistant dean of students, noted, “The eSports program continues to grow and expand, and it is truly exciting to be one of the schools leading the country in this exciting opportunity for intercollegiate competition.”
