The Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC) has announced that Ashleigh Flores ’29, a Nursing major and Leadership Fellow from North Chesterfield, Va., will represent Randolph-Macon College in its inaugural cohort of VFIC Presidential Scholars.

The VFIC Presidential Scholars Program is a new statewide initiative designed to develop the next generation of values-based leaders across Virginia’s independent colleges and universities. Selected by their college or university presidents, the scholars are rising second-year students from each of the 17 VFIC member institutions and exemplify outstanding leadership, a commitment to service, and a passion for strengthening their communities.

“Being selected as Randolph-Macon’s first VFIC Presidential Scholar is an incredible honor,” Flores said. “As a first-generation college student pursuing a career in nursing, this recognition means so much to me. I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to grow through the program’s leadership development, which will help me become a more compassionate, confident, and effective leader in healthcare. This experience inspires me to continue serving others, challenging myself, and representing Randolph-Macon with pride.”

Developing values-based leaders like Ashleigh is not only a goal for this special VFIC program, but a hallmark of the RMC experience.”

Each VFIC Presidential Scholar will receive a comprehensive package of financial support and leadership opportunities, including a $10,000 annual scholarship for up to three years, mentorship provided by their college of university president, participation in leadership development seminars and networking opportunities, and a fully funded experiential learning opportunity.

The VFIC plans to expand the Presidential Scholars Program annually, adding a new cohort each year until three cohorts are active at the same time.
