The SGA derives its authority and responsibility from the administration of the College and is finally accountable to the Office of Student Life. However, the administration and the faculty have recognized the value of student participation in College affairs, as is evidenced by the inclusion of students as full members on a large number of decision-making councils and committees. One important function of Student Government in the area of communication is to encourage the student body to formulate opinions and ideas on various matters of interest to students. Once such opinions and ideas are formulated, it is the task of Student Government to convey those opinions and ideas to faculty, administration, and trustees and to engage in discussion on these matters. The Student Government Association is designed in such a way as to mimic the administration of the College.
