Your Next Chapter Begins!

The summer before attending Randolph-Macon College will fly by very quickly. Before you know it, you’ll be on campus & settling in. Here’s a look at some of what will happen to get you ready and ensure your transition to becoming a full-fledged Yellow Jacket sets you up for success.

Key Milestones for Summer

June

Complete Your Housing Application

We know you’re eager to find out where you’ll live. Complete your Housing Application by June 1. The form takes less than 10 minutes to complete and will ask you questions about your sleeping habits, study habits, and general preferences. Then, we’ll assign your residence hall and roommate.

Attend new student registration day & family orientation day

Your very first official day on campus will be New Student Registration Day, where you’ll meet many new students like you and, importantly, register for classes! You’ll RSVP for one of two available dates through the “New Student Orientation & Advising Day Form” located on MyMaconWeb. Access to MyMaconWeb opens to new students in April.

*New Student Registration Days will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. We know that schedules are busy. If you are unable to attend the dates provided, indicate that you require an alternate date on your form.

a word about families:

Families will receive communications about experiences and resources geared toward their unique needs. This will include the opportunity to attend an optional in-person Family Orientation Programming during your student’s New Student Registration Day. Later in the summer, Move-In Day also includes programming, just for YJ families.

July and August

Meet your captain and connect with your fleet

We want to make sure you’re met by familiar faces when you arrive at RMC! With much of the “business” of being a new student taking care of (e.g., completing forms and selecting classes), you’ll spend July and August focusing on opportunities that build connections.

In mid-summer, you’ll hear from your New Student Orientation Captain, a peer mentor who will be your guide through orientation and welcome week (and beyond). You’ll also find out your “crew” – a group of new students (like you) who are all connected to your Captain. rerr

Count down to your arrival!

Also in August, you’ll hear from us often to be sure you feel prepared for New Student Orientation & Welcome Week, which begins the Thursday before Labor Day weekend.

Orientation and Welcome Week

The start of fall semester is an exciting time at Randolph-Macon College! We’ll have lots of activities, just for new students, as you experience the “buzz” of the start of school.

New Student Move-In and Check-In

Thursday, August 31

Let the fun begin! Move-in & check-in day is always a lot of fun. From meeting your roommate and hallmates to meeting your Orientation Crew, you’ll have lots of exciting milestones (and, yes, maybe a few emotional ones. We’re ready!)

Residential Students: Freshmen & Transfer students will select their check-in time through the “Move-in Sign-up” link located on MyMaconWeb, available in August 2023. Move-in activities usually begin around 8:30 am, and families are welcome to join their students prior to the start of New Student programming, which begins at 4 p.m.!

Commuting Students: Freshman & Transfer commuting student check-in usually begins at 1 p.m., followed by a Commuting Student Welcome Session and Tour. New Student programming begins at 4 p.m.!

Seaworthy: The Ultimate Fleet Competition – is where the New Student “fleets,” made up of combined crews, compete for the “Seaworthy Cup” and other fun prizes!

New Student Orientation and Welcome Weekend

Thursday August 31 to Sunday September 3

There’s a lot to know, which is why we schedule the whole weekend for all new students (including commuter and transfer students) for Welcome Weekend. Plan to participate in the whole event; A full schedule will be provided to new students during their check-in on Thursday.

Events are a mix of fun, and also helpful, as you meet people and learn to navigate college life.

Rock the Brocks is an event during Welcome Week to introduce first-year students to different spaces around campus. Here, in Brock Rec Center, students were able to participate in volleyball, crafts, basketball, or just relaxing.

Welcome Week

Monday September 4 to Friday September 8

The fun doesn’t stop when classes begin. Welcome Week continues, with opportunities to explore, connect, and have fun! Details regarding Welcome Week festivities will be shared with the RMC community in August 2023.
