RMC Esports Claims Four Individual Honors from ECAC
The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) honored four student-athletes from the Randolph-Macon Esports program with individual awards for their performance throughout the 2024 season.
Connor Mahoney ’24 was named the ECAC Valorant Player of the Season, while teammate Daniel Treadway ’27 was recognized as the ECAC Valorant Rookie of the Season. RMC’s Valorant team completed an undefeated season in the ECAC by winning its national championship over WVU Potomac State College.
Additionally, Warren Bryson ’25 was named the ECAC Hearthstone Player of the Season and Emily Pineda ’24 earned ECAC Street Fighter 6 Rookie of the Season honors.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication shown by the athletes in the RMC Esports Program,” RMC Director of Esports Carin Bublitz said. “To have multiple Rookies and Players of the Season is an incredible honor and I look forward to seeing these athletes grow in the upcoming years.”
The ECAC also paid tribute to the memory of Berend High ’27, a member of RMC’s League of Legends team who tragically lost his life this past winter. They re-named a significant year-end award the “Most Improved Player of the Season in Honor of Berend High.”
RMC Esports encompasses 23 different teams competing across 17 different video game titles with over 50 student-athletes. This year’s ECAC Valorant crown was the program’s fourth championship; the League of Legends team won the National Esports Collegiate Conference in 2021 and the Hearthstone team has won two ECAC titles. Bublitz was also named the 2023 ECAC Coach of the Year.
