RMC Esports Captures ECAC Valorant Championship
The Randolph-Macon Esports Valorant team completed an undefeated season in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) by claiming the national championship with a win over WVU Potomac State College.
The team of Connor Mahoney ‘24, Mady Croft ‘26, Daniel Treadway ‘27, John Myers ‘25, Ben McMahon ‘25, and Christian Garcia ‘25 won all 11 matches during ECAC play this season en route to the team’s first national championship.
“This season has been the best season for our Valorant team so far,” said Carin Bublitz, RMC’s Director of Esports. “I am extremely proud of the progress they have made and the teamwork they exhibited. Last semester was not easy, but we took the lessons we learned and came back stronger than ever. I look forward to next year and watching my team continue to grow.”
Valorant is a first-person shooter game that features 5v5 team play in collegiate competition. The regular season consists of best-of-three series, with 16 of the ECAC’s 48 teams making the playoffs. The semifinal and championship rounds are a best-of-5 format; RMC defeated WVU Potomac State on three out of four maps to capture the title.
The RMC Valorant team also simultaneously competes in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), where they finished the year in second place after falling to Southwest Minnesota State University in the title match. The Yellow Jackets compiled an 8-2 record in NACE play.
RMC Esports encompasses 23 different teams competing across 17 different video game titles with over 50 student-athletes. This is the program’s fourth championship; the League of Legends team won the National Esports Collegiate Conference in 2021 and the Hearthstone team has won two ECAC titles.
