Randolph-Macon to Break Ground on New Residential Village
Randolph-Macon College will break ground shortly on a village of apartment-style residence halls, planned to open at the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year.
The four-building complex will offer a total of 64 beds, with additional new parking spaces. The site, on the west side of the train tracks, is adjacent to the College’s business and advancement offices. It is located to the west of Center Street, north of Henry Clay Road, and south of Patrick Street.
The project is made possible by the generosity of an anonymous lead donor along with financing approved by the Board of Trustees in May.

The new facility reflects RMC’s continued enrollment growth, with a record enrollment of more than 1600 students expected for fall 2024. The growth is thanks to a record number of freshman students and transfers set to join the College in the fall as the Class of 2028, building on a decade of growth that includes two larger cohorts in the fall of 2022 and 2023.
“This exciting project is an investment in our current enrollment success and our future growth,” said RMC President Robert R. Lindgren. “Excellent facilities have a meaningful impact on our student body and are crucial to making Randolph-Macon feel like a second home.”
This will be the first new residential facility built since the College completed Birdsong Hall in 2014. The residential village was originally planned for construction prior to the pandemic, but postponed due to the uncertainty of the time.
“As our last strategic plan stated, we remain committed to controlled and strategic growth in a manner that builds on our longstanding financial stability, while maintaining the unique character and traditions of our institution,” said Lindgren.
The building was designed by Moseley Architects, with civil engineering from SilverCore Land Development Consultants. Construction will be led by English Construction.
Each two-story building will be made up of four apartments and feature covered porch spaces. The units, which are earmarked for upperclassmen, will have four single bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and in-unit laundry. There will be additional campus parking behind the residential village.
