RMC Response to Recent Events

June 1, 2020

Dear Randolph-Macon College Community,

The senseless deaths of people of color in our country, and most recently of George Floyd in Minnesota, has again brought to light the enormous weight of racial injustice in our nation’s history.  Let me say clearly: Randolph-Macon College upholds the values of equity and justice, and condemns those of racism and hate.  The profound impact of racial disparity can neither be ignored or excused.

The RMC Community strives to live our College Mission Statement daily, to develop the mind and character of each student.  In this moment, we are reminded of the need to do more, and we commit to redoubling our efforts to help make our community, and our country, more equal and just.  Randolph-Macon pledges to renew and expand our commitment to increasing access and support for our students of color.

The core strength of Randolph-Macon College lies in the commitment of this Community to each and every one of its members.  We stand together, even as we are apart.  On Saturday, June 6 at 3:00 p.m., our Chaplain, the Reverend Kendra Grimes, will share prayers and reflections on these recent events in our community and our nation.  A community-wide e-mail will be forthcoming this week with information and instructions about how to participate.

Thank you again for your support, dedication, and remarkable resilience as a member of the Randolph-Macon College Community.  You are all appreciated beyond measure.

Sincerely,

Bob Lindgren
