Macon Day: Reaching Out, Giving Back (VIDEO)

On November 10, 2016, Randolph-Macon College held its fourth-annual Macon Day, raising more than $220,000 in 24 hours. Thanks to the generosity of 952 donors—students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the college—Macon Day was a tremendous success. Funds raised from Macon Day will impact many areas of the college, including academics, athletics and student life.

Funds raised this year reflect an increase of $12,000 over last year’s Macon Day total. The event was successful in large part because of alumni volunteers—including members of the Board of Trustees, Board of Associates, Society of Alumni Board, Young Alumni Board, Class Agent Program and Yellow Jacket Board—who collectively contributed $10,000 to the Macon Day Challenge Fund. This special fund awarded $1,000 to each of 10 departments or programs whose unique, time-sensitive “donor challenges” were fulfilled.

Rick Golembeski ’96, director of annual giving and alumni relations, says Macon Day was an opportunity for donors to reach out and give back.

“Macon Day was not only a day of giving, but a day to educate and raise awareness about all of the great things happening at RMC,” says Golembeski. “In addition, alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and students embraced the call to action by volunteering to reach out to peers and classmates, widening the circle of giving, and spreading Yellow Jacket pride. We are very grateful to everyone who participated in this very special day.”
