Classics Instructor Receives International Achievement Award
Cathy Daugherty, an adjunct instructor in Randolph-Macon College’s Classics Department, is the 2016 recipient of the International Achievement Award. The award is presented annually to a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Society (DKG) who has given distinguished service to the Society. DKG is a professional honor society of key women educators in the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Japan. The Society, which promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education, was formed in Austin, Texas in 1929.
“Service to education and educators motivates the work of DKG,” says Daugherty. “Being the recipient of the Society’s Achievement Award validates not only the recipient but also the work of DKG. I share this honor with every member who has provided the opportunities and tools that led to my receiving this recognition.”
Daugherty recently served as the international first vice president on DKG’s 2014-2016 administrative board, leading it through the process of updating its strategic plan. The International Achievement Award was presented to her at the “Be the Change” luncheon July 7, 2016 during DKG’s international convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
Daugherty retired from Hanover County Public Schools in 2007 where she served as both teacher and supervisor for World Languages. She earned her B.A from University of North Carolina, Greensboro, and her M.A.Ed. from the College of William & Mary.
