Fostering a Global Community

Randolph-Macon College is home to students from around the world. The Office of International Education (OIE) strives to offer meaningful ways for all students to share their culture and identity with the RMC community.

The Office of International Education frequently hosts intercultural programs, events, and activities that promote awareness of culture and diversity to allow individuals to learn from one another and create life-long friendships.

We encourage you to get involved with one or more of the options sponsored by the OIE. You can explore the world without leaving campus!

International Assistant Program

The International Assistant Program matches new international students with returning RMC students. Some of these IAs were once new international students themselves, while others are US students, many of whom have studied abroad and know what it is like to be a foreigner in another country. These IAs assist the new international students in their adjustment to life at the college and to US culture in general.

International Interest Group (IIG)

The International Interest Group is a student organization that seeks to teach awareness and appreciation of international cultures through entertaining activities and discussions. The group hopes to teach an appreciation of multiculturalism and growing global diversity.

International Education Week

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, celebrating the benefits of international education and exchange. Universities, study abroad providers, embassies, international organizations, and others all participate in the week-long event.

Randolph-Macon College typically observes International Education Week in mid-November and invites all offices, departments, and community members to submit activities for and participate in International Education Week.

“We recognize that international education is integral to building and sustaining a more democratic, secure, and prosperous world.”

Study Abroad Ambassador Program

Study Abroad Ambassadors are study abroad returnee students who promote education abroad at Randolph-Macon by speaking about their experiences abroad to their fellow Yellow Jackets and supporting prospective and current study abroad students on campus.

Students who have successfully completed any study abroad program through OIE are eligible to become Study Abroad Ambassadors. These ambassadors speak about their study abroad experience in classrooms on campus, staff OIE and College events throughout the semester (such as our Study Abroad Fairs), and provide general support to prospective study abroad students. The commitment is one academic semester (September – December or February – May).

Benefits of the Ambassador Program

  • Put your international experience to work at home and talk about your passions
  • Build professional skills, including teamwork, public speaking, and leadership skills
  • Make connections with other study abroad returnees
  • Become a mentor to prospective study abroad students
  • Earn service volunteer hours
