Modern health science preparation for PAs who think, feel, know, do
Two women stand discussing in front of a poster board at a symposium of graduate research focused on Physician Assistant Studies. Other attendees and poster boards fill the background, creating a lively atmosphere for PA Studies professionals exchanging insights and ideas.
The two-year PA program at RMC authentically combines fully modern health science preparation and inter-professional training. Throughout your coursework in PA school, you’ll experience the best of the liberal arts, like research projects that connect you with the community or service-learning with volunteer groups.

PA PRogram Structure

  • Cohort size: 32 students
  • Duration: 24 months (12 months preclinical immersion, plus seven six-week clinical rotations)
  • Matriculation: January of each year
  • Credits: 124 total
  • PA Admission: Rolling, through CASPA

Our Educational Philosophy

Our news reports frequently tell us that health systems are strained, health equity gaps are widening, providers are burning out, and that patients feel diminished connections with their care providers. The RMC curriculum specifically targets these trends via focused preparations in patient engagement, cultural competence, telemedicine, self-care, and burnout prevention.

Our approach? Think. Feel. Know. Do. Through intensive, thoughtful pre-clinical preparation in our state-of-the-art labs, followed by seven clinical rotations in the healthcare field, you’ll learn the skills and mindsets that will help you prepare for a career as a PA.

Accreditation

The ARC-PA has granted Accreditation-Provisional status to the Randolph-Macon College Physician Assistant Studies Program sponsored by Randolph-Macon College.

Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation-Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of
students.

Accreditation-Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class. The program’s accreditation history can be viewed on the ARC-PA website at http://www.arc-pa.org/accreditation-history-randolph-macon-college/.

PAs report very high job satisfaction, and “Physician Assistant” is consistently ranked as one of the top 3 healthcare careers in the U.S.

What’s a PA?

A PA is a Physician Assistant, essential members of our healthcare systems who trained to deliver patient-centered care of the highest quality to individuals of all ages and from every background. PAs work in public and private environments, in the U.S. Military, and in many countries around the world. Training is typically done in a graduate program of 24-30 months. In order to practice in the U.S., eligible graduates must pass a national certifying exam called the PANCE test, obtain state medical licensure, and meet continuing medical education requirements. More than 160,000 PAs have received national certification since 1975.
