Tips & Tricks to Choosing Your Major
- Consider the broad selection of course options in the College’s liberal art education for exposure to a variety of disciplines.
- Visit the Edge Career Center in Thomas Branch Hall for information on possible careers, skills/interest assessment Focus 2, or job market updates.
- Arrange a discussion with a faculty member or the department chair in the discipline in which you may be interested.
- Interview a professional working in the field in which you may be interested. Find out their background and education, what skills they use in their profession, what qualifications are needed to enter the field, etc. The Edge can help you connect with RMC alumni who will be glad to share their experiences with you.
- Perform volunteer work within a professional field of your interest. This will give you direct experience to help in your decision-making process.

- Where would you like to live?
- What kind of lifestyle would you enjoy?
- What may be the future trend for a particular profession?
Ready to go? Here’s how to Declare your Major
Students are expected to declare their major area of study by the end of their sophomore year. Students can declare their major/minor through MyMaconWeb.
Easy as 1,2,3 – The Steps to Declare Your Major:
- Log into MMW. Click on Academics > Student > and Major Minor Degree Declaration. Once the page is loaded, you can begin to make your changes.
- To make changes to your Degree Program, Major(s), and/or Minor(s), click the “yes” button. This will open an update section. Here you will choose what changes you’d like to make. You may declare up to 4 Majors and/or 4 Minors.
- Once you have completed your selection(s), please type your name and click the Submit Request button.
How to Change to Your Major Advisor
(Additionally, you can navigate to the form via the Academics tab > Student page > Change of Advisor Request under Student Requests.) On the Change of Advisor Request form, you will be able select your new advisor from the drop-down list and then submit your request. A notification will go to the selected advisor requesting their approval. Once approved, the Registrar’s office will process the advisor change and a notification will be sent to your former advisor.
