Full-time status means a student is enrolled in 12 academic semester hours. For purposes of determining course load for full-time status only, courses which have previously been passed with a grade lower than a C- and which are being re-taken to meet requirements for a major or a minor will be counted at their normal credit hour value. However, these courses will carry no credit hour value toward graduation.
Academic Full-Time Status
Full-time status may be required for:
Athletic Participation – Students participating in intercollegiate athletics, including managers and supporting staff, must be full-time during the season. Contact the Athletic Director with questions.
Academic Probation – All students who are on academic probation must maintain full-time status during the probationary period by taking 12-14 hours. Contact the Registrar’s Office with questions.
Financial Aid – Students must be full-time to maintain their financial aid. Students must be aware that they need to ensure that they are maintaining “Satisfactory Academic Progress” to be eligible for aid in the next academic year. Please see the chart below:

Consult with the Financial Aid Office to determine how dropping below full-time may affect financial aid prior to dropping the course(s).
Health Insurance, Auto Insurance and Good Driver Discount – Verification for insurance companies may be done at any time throughout the semester. Students should check with their parents regarding their specific coverage to see if there is a need to be full-time. Contact the Registrar’s Office with questions.
International Students – International students who are in the U.S. on an F-1 visa may not drop below full-time status without the prior permission of a DSO (Designated School Official).

Residence Halls – Students must be full-time to live in a residence hall/townhouse apartment. A student who drops below 12 academic hours must obtain permission from the Director of Residence Life and Housing. Contact the Office of Residence Life with questions.
