A seamless transition

We wish to offer graduates of Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and Richard Bland College (RBC) a seamless transition from their two-year associate degree program into a four-year baccalaureate program. To help ease this process, we’ve adopted Guaranteed Admissions Agreements (GAAs) with the Virginia Community College System and Richard Bland College.

Virginia Community College System

  • GAA students must earn a VCCS transfer-oriented associate degree. Those degrees include an Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), or Associate of Arts & Sciences (AAS) as identified by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
  • GAA students must earn a curricular grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher at their VCCS school. If the student has completed college work at another institution(s), their cumulative GPA must not be less than a 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • GAA students must complete the RMC transfer application and submit all required materials by July 1 for fall term, or December 1 for spring term.
  • GAA students will submit an Intent to Transfer form to RMC.
  • This GAA assumes that there are no other factors in a student’s academic or personal record that might prevent acceptance (e.g., academic suspension or dismissal, felony conviction).

Benefits to the vccs Student

  • Students meeting the terms of this agreement are guaranteed junior status at RMC.
  • GAA students who meet application deadlines will be guaranteed a merit-based scholarship.
  • RMC will accept at full value all academic credits earned at their VCCS school if they are considered equivalent to courses offered at RMC and if they bear a grade of ‘C’ or higher.
  • Students may transfer up to 75 semester hours of transfer work from regionally accredited institutions and/or credit by examination (e.g., AP or IB credit).

Richard Bland College

  • Students must have earned a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). A minimum grade of C must be obtained in each course the student wishes to transfer. Eligible transfer students must provide transcripts from any other colleges attended.
  • Richard Bland GAA students must complete the RMC transfer application and submit all official college transcripts by July 1 for fall term admission or December 1 for spring term admission.
  • Richard Bland GAA students will be granted junior status and will be considered as having fulfilled the College’s general education requirements, with the following exclusions and exceptions:
    • Students who complete the Associates of Arts degree at Richard Bland College must complete the College’s Cross-Area Requirements, most of which can be fulfilled through most major programs and should not significantly increase the time to completion of degree.
    • Students who complete the Associates of Science degree at Richard Bland College must complete any additional foreign language coursework necessary to satisfy Randolph-Macon’s graduation requirement of intermediate language proficiency, and must complete the College’s Curriculum, most of which can be fulfilled through most major programs and should not significantly increase the time to completion of degree.
