Randolph-Macon College will present “Prostitutes and the Discourse of Nation Building in World War II China” on September 29, 2015 at 6 p.m. in the Dollar Tree Community Room, Brock Commons (304 Henry Street).

When war broke out in 1937 between China and Japan, a campaign got underway in China to persuade people to donate money to resistance movements. Prostitutes in Shanghai and Wuhan contributed their savings to the resistance army. RMC History Professor Dewen Zhang will explore the debate over whether to incorporate or exclude these women in the discourse of nation-building during a particular moment in history. This talk is part of the 2015-16 Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies Speakers Series. Free and open to the public.
