News Story categories: Academics Student Life

In today’s digital age, there are countless apps and tools designed to help students stay organized, focused, and productive. Whether you need help with writing, time management, or studying, these apps can make your academic life easier.

Read&Write

Boost reading and writing confidence across all types of content and devices, in class, at work, and at home!  Read&Write provides personalized support to make documents, web pages and common file types more accessible.  It is designed to help everyone engage with digital content in a way that suits their abilities and learning styles.  MyMaconWeb provides links and download instruction.

Microsoft Teams

We strongly encourage students to download the Teams app. This will allow you to participate in teams meetings from the flexibility of your phone! The McGraw-Page Library offers links to download the app and web extensions.

Adobe Acrobat

Adobe Acrobat is a great tool when you have a physical document but no scanner and you need the document digitized.  It converts photos and physical documents into PDF documents directly onto your phone.

Off Screen

OffScreen is a great app if you’re trying to cut back on how much time you spend on your phone during the day or trying to get off your phone and get to bed earlier.  The app sends notifications when you’re close to your set screen time limit and it provides alerts each time you pick up your phone.  This is really helpful feedback for awareness.

Focus Keeper

We LOVE the Pomodoro Technique in the HAC, and the Focus Keeper app is one of our favorites.  The app features a Pomodoro Technique timer and a really simple interface.  We love the Pomodoro Technique for virtual learning especially for those who get hyper focused or locked into their work and burn out quickly.  The Pomodoro Technique is helpful to beat procrastination when you don’t feel like doing work.  By doing work in increments of 25 minutes with 5 minute breaks, you maximize your time and build momentum.

RescueTime

The RescueTime extension tracks the time you spend on your computer.  This provides a clear picture of what you were actually doing all day long and helps to better manage your digital life.  RescueTime does its best to auto-categorize the sites you visit and scores them on a scale from very productive to very distracting.  Why do we love it?  Having good information and consistant feedback helps you manage your time better so you can spend the day the way you’d like.

Notion

Notion provides a single space for organizing everything that matters. It offers a clean and open surface for thinking, writing, and planning. Customization is key, allowing users to create pages and arrange them as needed.

Grammarly

Grammarly’s world-class linguists and researchers built Grammarly’s unrivaled writing assistance using a variety of methods like machine learning and deep learning—and consistently break new ground in natural language processing (NLP) and generative AI.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empowers learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom.

Quizlet

Quizlet is a web-based tool that allows student to create study tools such as interactive flashcards, tests, and study games. With Quizlet, students can choose their own “Study Mode.” This allows activity content to be migrated from flashcards to matching games to other types of study games easily and responsively.

Brainscape

Brainscape’s unique spaced repetition algorithm, combined with active recall and metacognition (assessing your own learning) has been proven to help you learn faster and remember longer.
