Randolph-Macon College Board of Trustees Chair Sue Schick ’84 and President Robert R. Lindgren welcome the recently elected Yancey S. Jones as the newest member of the College’s Board of Trustees. Jones, who was born and raised in Ashland, Va., is the founder and former CEO of The Supply Room Companies, Inc.

After earning a B.S. in marketing from Steed College, Jones returned to Ashland and stepped into the family retail business, Meade & Co., acquiring ownership in 1981. He transformed Meade & Co. from a small family business on the railroad tracks to the second largest independent office solutions dealer in the United States. The Supply Room has acquired nearly 40 companies throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., and has grown from annual sales of $3 million in 1988 to over $245 million in 2020.

In 2020, Jones purchased S.P. Richards, the second largest national wholesale distributor of office products, furniture, and janitorial supplies, which delivers to all 48 contiguous states of the U.S. In 2023, he stepped down as SPR Executive Chairman, officially retiring from the office products industry after 45 years. During this time, ownership and management of The Supply Room transitioned to his two sons, where it continues to serve its customers.

Jones supports his community in a variety of ways, including the Hanover Food Ministry housed in The Supply Room warehouse. The ministry provides meals for students in need at western Hanover County schools on a weekly basis; approximately 54,000 meals are provided per school year. He also serves as treasurer of the Hanover Education Foundation, and on the board of First Capital Bank, where he also serves as the chairman of its finance committee. Jones previously served on RMC’s Board of Associates, and is an active member of his church, St. James the Less, serving as a senior warden, treasurer, and chair of the finance committee.
