RMC to Welcome New Sorority to Campus

Randolph-Macon College will soon welcome a new addition to its fraternity and sorority community. In spring 2020, Sigma Sigma Sigma (Tri Sigma) will join four other sororities as part of RMC’s College Panhellenic Council (CPC).

Jayme Watkins, director of Student Life, says, “Fraternity and sorority life is stronger than ever at RMC. Our sororities are the largest they have ever been, and the fraternity and sorority community makes up more than 33 percent of the student body. This rise is in large part due to the strength in chapters and growth in the college. We are delighted for this opportunity and look forward to having Tri Sigma become part of the RMC family.”

The Application and Review Process
The process to bring Tri Sigma to campus began in spring 2018 when RMC formed an Exploratory Committee.

“The committee reviewed statistics, such as college enrollment data and recruitment trends, and gathered feedback from current female students,” explains Watkins.  “The Committee recommended extension (the process of deciding which chapter to bring to campus) and CPC approved their recommendation. A bulletin was then sent to all 26 National Panhellenic organizations letting them know that RMC was interested in bringing a new chapter to campus and those organizations interested could apply.”

In spring 2019, RMC formed an Extension Committee made up of five members from each of the current CPC chapters on campus.

CPC President Reagan Peters ’21 says, “The Extension Committee went through a lengthy review process. The committee reviewed material from the chapters that applied to join Randolph-Macon’s CPC community. Using a rubric we created, the committee chose three applicants and invited each of these national organizations to visit RMC to meet and learn more about our campus and our students. After multiple interviews, presentations, and discussions, the Extension Committee recommended that we invite Tri Sigma to join the RMC community.”

Katelyn Whitty, director of growth initiatives for Tri Sigma, says, “We are thrilled to be joining the Randolph-Macon College community. As an organization that has its roots in Virginia, we are excited to add another chapter in the state and look forward to getting to know Randolph-Macon students.”
