RMC President Honored with General Assembly Resolution
On May 24, 2016, Virginia Senator Ryan T. McDougle presented Randolph-Macon College President Robert R. Lindgren with a copy of a resolution passed during the 2016 session of the Virginia General Assembly. The Senate resolution, SJR-147, and the companion resolution introduced in the House of Delegates by Delegate Christopher K. Peace, HJR-174, celebrate Lindgren’s 10th year as president of Randolph-Macon College.
President and Mrs. Lindgren, along with their son, Greg, were presented with the resolution by Senator McDougle. The resolution highlights Lindgren’s “10th year of extraordinary leadership” at RMC.

Lindgren, who led efforts to establish RMC’s 2009–2017 strategic plan, “Now is the Time: Expanding Our Tradition of Excellence,” is lauded in the resolution for his “contributions to higher education,” and his “transformational presidency at Randolph-Macon College.”
The McDougle and Peace resolutions also honor Lindgren’s successful Strategic Plan implementation, including enrollment growth, and the completion of the five-year Building Extraordinary capital campaign on December 31, 2015, which surpassed its original goal and ended with $125 million raised. The success of the campaign has ushered in a campus renaissance with six new buildings and multiple renovations. In May 2016, the college broke ground on its newest facility, a 30,000-square-foot science building.
Under Lindgren’s leadership, RMC’s alumni-giving percentage has reached a remarkable level of 40%, ranking RMC first in the state of Virginia and 16th in the nation for all colleges and universities—both public and private.
The resolutions also cite Lindgren’s leadership positions at The Johns Hopkins Institutions, where he served as vice president for development and alumni relations, and where he led two of the largest fundraising campaigns in American higher education history; and at the University of Florida and the University of Florida School of Law, where he led major capital campaigns raising hundreds of millions of dollars.
In addition, the resolutions honor Lindgren’s connections with countless RMC students, faculty, alumni, and friends, and with numerous Virginia government, business, civic, and academic communities.
