RMC Extends Test-Optional Admissions

Randolph-Macon College will extend its pilot study of test-optional admissions for students applying in the next two entry cycles based on a recent decision by the College’s Committee on Academic Policies. The extension gives current high school sophomores and juniors the freedom to submit SAT or ACT scores as part of their application to RMC but does not require them to do so.
The College’s test-optional policy was implemented in the summer of 2020 in response to testing disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since that time, RMC’s admissions pool has expanded significantly to include students who might not otherwise apply.
“The test-optional policy at Randolph-Macon truly puts the ball in the student’s court,” said Director of Admissions Erin Slater. “If the student would like for us to review their score, then we will do so. However, if the student does not feel that their test score is representative of their true potential as a student, then they should not hesitate to withhold them.”
In keeping with Randolph-Macon’s holistic review process, the College’s admissions team will continue to consider all aspects of an applicant’s high school experience, focusing on opportunities students have taken advantage of outside of the classroom in addition to their academic achievement.
“We do not make any assumptions as to why the score is not being sent,” Slater said. “Instead, we will focus our attention on their transcript, their letters of recommendation, their essay, and any additional piece of information that the student wishes to share in support of their candidacy.”
Applying to Randolph-Macon is convenient and always free. Interested students can apply to RMC via the College’s website or through the Common Application.
