RMC Equestrian Team Finishes Successful Season
The jackets finished the fall season on a high note, with a successful team event at the Virginia Horse Trials. The team had ten members competing, making up three teams for the USEA Intercollegiate Challenge. It was a tough competition in rainy conditions but RMC Eventing managed to bring home 5th, 6th, and 8th place team finishes while almost all members finished in the top ten in their individual event.
The 5th place team was made up of Sophomore Austin Skeens, who placed 8th in his training level division with two clear jumping rounds. Senior Charlotte Stillfried cruised around for an 11th place finish in her first CCI2*-L and was named the top junior rider in the CCI2* Championship. Junior Katherine DeLaney and her young horse also clenched a 5th place finish in the Beginner Novice. Senior Sydney Guy had a personal best dressage score of 27.5 in the Open Beginner Novice.
The 6th place team included Morgyn Johnson who rocked around a muddy course Sunday on her horse Peter Parker GS for a 5th place finish in the training level. Katherine DeLaney and her horse Canto Royale completed their second CCI3*-S, winning the dressage and finishing in 6th place. Holly Shade had another cracking weekend with new horse Hang on Caitlyn to place 7th in the Novice.
Our 8th place team was made up of Kyra Bergmann, Sydney Price, Rachel Bailey, and Sarah Meek who all completed the starter division at VA HT. Each had confidence building rounds and brought home almost all top ten finishes.
Team members Kendall Benner, Morgan Hoyt, and Julia Fugate all showed up to help their team members while freshman Alex Holiday spent her weekend volunteering as a ring steward and jump judge. As always none of this would be possible without our fearless leader Dana Lesesne and Coach Ashley Adams.
Though this year has been filled with its share of ups and downs, it was great to have a COVID safe, team event to showcase this team’s growth and progress throughout this fall semester!
