President Hill, New and Returning Members, Sworn in as RMC Trustees

Randolph-Macon College Board of Trustees Chair Sue Schick ’84 is pleased to announce four additions to the College’s Board of Trustees.

Timothy P. O’Brien ’90 rejoins the board after being elected for additional terms, while Jodi Turner Smith ’94 and Rev. Lindsey Baynham Freeman ’09 join as ex officio members as the Parents Board Chair and the Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church Representative, respectively. Additionally, President Michael E. Hill joined O’Brien, Smith, and Freeman to be officially sworn in as a Trustee at the Nov. 1 Board meeting.

Timothy P. O’Brien ’90

O’Brien graduated from Randolph-Macon with a B.A. in Economics and Business before earning an MBA from the University of North Carolina and an M.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland. He previously served on RMC’s Board of Trustees from 2012-2024.

A leader in the healthcare and nonprofit sectors, O’Brien is a founder and partner at MeriStar Holdings, LP, a healthcare-focused private investment and financial advisory firm. He also serves as Vice President of Superior Living Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to delivering healthcare services and housing to vulnerable populations, a board member of Philadelphia Mental Health Center, Inc., and Chairman of the Advisory Board for Medalist Diversified REIT, Inc., a real estate investment trust.

He has held a variety of roles across the industry prior to MeriStar Holdings, including as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at NRF Healthcare Management, LLC. Over the course of his career, O’Brien has led or advised on more than $15 billion in transactions, spanning high-yield debt, mortgage financing, equity placements, mergers and acquisitions, and financial restructurings.

Jodi Turner Smith ’94

Smith graduated from Randolph-Macon with a B.A. in Psychology. She and her husband, Nate Smith ’95, serve as co-chairs of RMC’s Parents Board. Their son Noah ’22 graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and their daughter Caroline ’26 is a Criminology major.

Smith serves as Director of Development for Virginia Commonwealth University’s Office of Medical Philanthropy and Alumni Relations, where she manages a major gift portfolio and works in close partnership with faculty and several academic departments. She joined the development team at VCU’s School of Medicine in 1999, holding several key roles across her career, including Director of Annual Giving, Director of Alumni Affairs, and Director of Constituent Relations.

She was deeply involved as a student at RMC, serving as a resident assistant, as part of the leadership of the Delta Zeta Sorority, and on the Student Activities Board. In the years since her graduation, she has remained engaged with the College, serving as a class agent for the Class of 1994, and volunteering on the Homecoming Committee, at Edge Boot Camps, and other campus events.

Rev. Lindsey Baynham Freeman ’09

Freeman graduated from Randolph-Macon with a B.A. in Religious Studies before attending Duke Divinity School and becoming an ordained minister in The United Methodist Church.

She has served in a variety of roles within the church, including as an associate pastor at Fairfax United Methodist Church and Arise Campus Ministry at George Mason University, within the Center for Clergy Excellence in the Virginia Conference office, lead pastor at Welborne United Methodist Church in Richmond, and now as the District Superintendent for the Mission Rivers District. Freeman has also held leadership roles on the Board of Directors for the General Board of Higher Education & Ministry and as the head of the Virginia delegation to the UMC General Conference.

Freeman was a multidisciplinary student, playing on the Field Hockey team, performing with the Chamber Singers, and being a member of the Phi Mu Fraternity.
