Nursing Director Selected to Participate in Leadership Program
Dr. Cindy Rubenstein, director of Randolph-Macon College’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, was selected to participate in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s inaugural Advancing Academic Leadership for New Deans Program for 2019-2020. The 13-month program is designed to develop and enhance the executive leadership skills of deans and directors of nursing.
Immersion + Peer Coaching
“Using in-depth assessments, experiential learning, and peer coaching, this program will further develop my skill set to maximize my ability to create opportunities for the department of nursing and the college,” says Rubenstein. The program includes four immersion experiences led by the Center for Creative Leadership. Over the course of the year, in addition to the immersion experiences, Rubenstein will work with a peer coaching team to complete a leadership project she will plan and create.
Supporting Innovative Teaching and Learning Practices
Each participant develops and completes a project over the course of the program, integrating leadership concepts from the program. Rubenstein’s project is to create a technology-enhanced initiative to support innovative teaching and learning practices within RMC’s BSN program.
“The emphasis on developing skills in peer coaching allows me to coach both faculty and students in their professional development,” says Rubenstein. “Strong leadership skills are necessary for a successful BSN program and faculty retention. Expanding my skill set directly impacts student and faculty retention and program quality.”
