Art Exhibition: “Sarah Spencer White: Makeshift”
Randolph-Macon College will host Makeshift, an exhibition of ceramic sculptures by Sarah Spencer White, at Flippo Gallery, Pace-Armistead Hall (211 N. Center St.). Map and Directions
The exhibition runs through December 17, 2018.
White is an accomplished ceramicist and adjunct professor of studio art at the University of Mary Washington. Her sculptures seek to question and expand the viewer’s understanding of function and dysfunction. By conflating abstract shapes derived from nature and anatomy with those of tools and machinery, White’s work sparks curiosity by challenging the concepts of function, form and flow.
Kristen Peyton, director and curator of the Flippo Gallery, says, “White’s work beckons the viewer to look in, around, and through its playful ceramic forms. She evokes the curiosity of her viewers by inviting them to peek through the various holes, openings, and whimsical appendages of her creative work.”
The Flippo Gallery is open Monday – Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The exhibition are free and open to the public.
