New Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta Installed at RMC
FAIRPORT, New York – Eileen Merberg, the Executive Director of Alpha Lambda Delta, announced a new chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta was formally installed at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA, on November 13, 2020 at 3:30pm. This marked the 387th chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta since its inception over 95 years ago.
The chapter at Randolph-Macon College was installed in an online ceremony by Executive Director Merberg and National President (and Longwood University Chapter Advisor), Dr. Sharon Emerson-Stonnell. Chapter advisor Lauren Bell, Dean of Academic Affairs, was instrumental in founding this new chapter on campus. The chapter was presented with a hand-calligraphed charter featuring names of the 60 founding members and 21 honorary members of the Society.
At the installation ceremony, Randolph-Macon College President Robert R. Lindgren joined representatives from the national headquarters in congratulating the student inductees. In a nod to the guiding principles of Alpha Lambda Delta, which recognizes student academic success in the first year of college, Lindgren quoted from Plato as he offered his congratulations: “The beginning is the most important part of the work.”
Members not only celebrated their academic success, but are now eligible for national scholarships and fellowships, programs to develop their leadership skills, and resources to help define the path to their career.
On behalf of the entire National Council, Executive Director Merberg wishes to welcome the new chapter, and all its members, at Randolph-Macon College. Executive Director Merberg stated, “We wish to emphasize the chapter’s responsibilities to uphold the ideals and high academic standards of Alpha Lambda Delta. Members will be encouraged to demonstrate their scholarship, honor, and enthusiasm for learning, and prove a creative working force on the Randolph-Macon College campus for ‘we must pass our torches on, one to another.’”
