Love Is in the Air at RMC
After every campus tour, we know visitors fall in love with RMC’s historic 125-acre campus. But this Valentine’s Day, we’re giving special attention to those Yellow Jackets who fell in love on RMC’s campus (and there are lots and lots and lots of them!).
Thanks to these couples who shared their story of meeting the love of their life while attending Randolph-Macon College. It’s always a great day to be a YJ, and even more so when you get to share those days with another Yellow Jacket!

How did you meet?
“We met in January of our freshman year (2018) when our basketball teams were hanging out. After that we became great friends! We played intramurals together all throughout the spring and worked basketball camps together throughout the summer. It was a blast! We started dating that summer, on July 8, and have been together ever since!”
What is your favorite RMC memory together?
“Our favorite memory together at Randolph-Macon was during the 2020 ODAC championship where both our teams got to watch each other win a championship and celebrate together! It was an awesome day for so many reasons, but we had seen how much hard work and sacrifice each of us had put into the season, so getting to experience the payoff together was incredible! Not to mention getting to win with all of your best friends!”

How did you meet?
“We officially met in the fall of 2004 when Dr. Gowan assigned me a tutor for his Environmental Studies class, though I had seen Matt before with the Phi Delta Thetas.”
What is your favorite RMC memory together?
“Our favorite from when we were in school was when “Castle Exile”—the house on Mullen Drive where Matt lived—had a Christmas Party to end all Christmas parties, complete with a light show from all the houses on the street. Our favorite memory from after we graduated was when he proposed in front of the flagpole, or when we got married in Duncan Chapel. Another favorite is the time we were walking to Ashland Coffee and Tea and two professors tried to convince me not to marry him so that he could go spend the winters off the coast of Maine for a project on which they were working.”

“We met in the commons area of Andrews Hall our first semester of freshman year through mutual friends. Jack lived in Andrews and I lived in Garland Hall. We officially became a couple during January term of our freshman year. After two years of long distance post-graduation, Jack proposed in August 2018, and we got married in October 2020.”
What is your favorite RMC memory together?
“We have so many fun memories of hanging out with our friend group in freshman village, Conrad Hall, Kappa Alpha, and the senior apartments. We always loved (and still love) tailgating at Homecoming and the Hampden-Sydney game.”

Dan ’82 & Kathy ’81 Reardon
How did you meet?
“Kathy was a year ahead of me. When I was a freshman, she was the homecoming queen, so I knew who she was. After that we even played in a pick-up basketball game against each other, but she had no idea who I was. When I was a junior and she was a senior, we had a term called ‘Colloquy’ (now called January term) where you took just one intensive class for the month of January. Some of them were travel classes, and we both signed up for one that went to India for the month. We spent a month in India together and got to know each other there—and the rest is history! When people ask where we met, we always say India (which usually invokes further curiosity and discussion!), but I guess technically we met at Randolph-Macon.”

What is your favorite RMC memory together?
“Alpha Gamma Delta’s Barn Dance in 1990. It was our first RMC event attended as an official couple.”
