Let’s Talk Transfer Admission
As the transfer student recruiter at Randolph-Macon College, I recognize that each student’s transfer path is unique. And because there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach to transfer admission, it can feel overwhelming to sort through the details of credit evaluations, application requirements, and financial aid for all the schools on your list.
For a quick introduction to how things work at RMC, I’ve answered some of the most common questions I get about our transfer process. This one post can’t cover it all, but I hope it’ll offer a good place to start. You can count on me for help with the rest!
What are guaranteed transfer programs?
We partner with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and Richard Bland College (RBC) to offer something called Guaranteed Admission Agreements (GAA). For VCCS and RBC graduates, these agreements offer a seamless transition from a 2-year associate degree program to our 4-year baccalaureate degree program.
Students who enroll at RMC under a Guaranteed Admission Agreement will be granted junior status, an annual merit scholarship of at least $23,000, and full acceptance of all academic credits that hold a grade of ‘C’ or higher.
Who is eligible for a Guaranteed Admission Agreement?
In addition to having earned a transfer-oriented degree (AA, AS, or AAS) from a VCCS school or from RBC, students must hold a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and must complete the RMC application. Visit our website to learn more about GAA requirements.
What are college transfer requirements?
RMC Transfer Application Requirements
All prospective transfer students are required to submit an RMC application, final transcripts from all colleges attended, and a college report from the most recent institution attended.
Students who’ve earned fewer than 24 transferrable credit hours prior to enrolling at RMC will also be required to submit an official high school transcript or GED. Transferrable credit hours are those earned with a grade of C- or higher in a course that’s eligible for transfer credit.
RMC GPA Requirement
I often get asked if RMC has a minimum GPA requirement. While there is no set minimum to be reviewed for admission, we consider a college GPA of 2.5 or above to be competitive. Rest assured, our holistic application review guarantees a thorough and careful consideration for each transfer applicant.
What college transfer scholarships are available?
All transfer applicants will be considered for one of our generous merit scholarships, no separate application required! Awards range from $23,000 to $28,000, and students are notified of their scholarship amount upon acceptance to RMC. If you’d like a preview of what you’d be eligible to receive, go ahead and complete our merit scholarship calculator for a quick estimate.
And remember, your merit scholarship is just the start of how we’d help you fund your RMC education. For more, view this complete list of our available scholarships and grants.

What transfer student financial aid is offered?
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): There’s a good chance you’re familiar with this one, but filing the FAFSA will help determine if you’re eligible to receive need-based financial aid. This could include federal, state, and RMC-funded grants (that don’t need to be repaid), loans, federal work study, or a combination of these. Filing the FAFSA is the most important step you can take to assess the true cost of your college education.
Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG): If you and your parent(s) or guardian(s) are residents of Virginia, you are eligible to receive Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant! This grant is available to residents who attend private, non-profit colleges and universities in Virginia. The 2025-2026 award amount is $5,250, renewable up to eight full-time semesters.
To be considered for this grant, you’ll need to email, fax, or mail a separate VTAG application to RMC by July 31, prior to the start of your fall semester of enrollment.
Two-Year College Transfer Grant (CTG): Available to students who’ve earned their associates degree at a public two-year college in Virginia, this grant aims to reduce the overall cost of bachelor’s degree completion. Upon transferring to RMC, eligible students will receive the CTG grant, ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 per year. Click here to learn more!

When should I apply to transfer colleges?
Our application deadline for fall transfer is July 1, with an enrollment deposit deadline of July 15. Our application deadline for spring transfer is January 3, with a deposit deadline of January 15. But because we offer rolling admission, there’s no need to wait until the deadline! Most transfer students will hear back 2 weeks (or less) after submitting their completed application.
