Celebrating Black History Month: Feb. 12: “Legacy of an African American Freedom Fighter”
On February 12, 2019, Randolph-Macon College will host Bol Gai Deng, who will present “Legacy of an African American Freedom Fighter” at 7 p.m. in the Dollar Tree Room, Brock Commons (304 Henry St.). This talk, which will be followed by a book signing, is sponsored by the Black Studies program and co-sponsored by the Departments of History, International Studies, and Political Science. This event is free and open to the public.
Bol Gai Deng
Bol Gai Deng arrived in the U.S. as a Sudanese refugee in 1999. Now a longtime Richmond resident and Virginia Commonwealth University alumnus with a degree in homeland security and political science, he has never forgotten his heritage or community.
Deng is a passionate advocate for African refugees and is currently running for president of South Sudan as the Kush Democratic majority party candidate. Recently, he told his story in Bol Gai Deng: Legacy of an African Freedom Fighter, written with Andrea McDaniel. The book will be available for purchase at this event.
