Extraordinary Alumni: Dory Jackson ‘16

Dory Jackson ‘16

RMC alumnus, Dory Jackson ’16 (Communications Studies major and Journalism minor), considers herself to be a true pop culture enthusiast with a focus on all things relating to movie news. She currently works in New York City as a Staff Writer for Us Weekly and co-hosts the “Idol Nation” podcast. She has worked with news brands such as Newsweek, Celebuzz, Press Pass LA, MTV and International Business Times. Through Newsweek, she has interviewed dozens of A-List stars, including: Zooey Deschanel, Michael B. Jordan, Kristen Bell, Alec Baldwin, Viola Davis, and Laverne Cox. Jackson has even received praise for her work from Maria Shriver on her article during Women’s History Month in Newsweek who said, “Love this article. Love this reality!” Although much of her writing is entertainment-based, she also enjoys covering news within the lifestyle, political and business world.

During her sophomore year at RMC, Jackson realized that she was meant to pursue a career in entertainment journalism after attending Hot 99.5’s Jingle Ball — an event where she had her first celebrity interviews with Fifth Harmony and Austin Mahone. While at RMC, Jackson said, “I could always count on the support of my professor and adviser, Dr. Joan Conners (Communications).”  Jackson also participated in the RMC Cheer & Dance Team and was the Senior Features Editor for the Yellow Jacket Newspaper. Her goal is to transition to broadcasting, either through hosting, on-air news reporting or podcasting.
