Environmental Writer to Give Talk at RMC on November 14
Randolph-Macon College will host environmental writer Emma Marris on November 14, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Dalton Family Dining Room, Birdsong Hall (106 E. Patrick St.) Marris will present “Searching for the Wild.” This event is free and open to the public. Map and Directions
In her talk, Marris will probe the evolving definitions of “wild,” with examples ranging from wolves in the American West to the indigenous communities of the rainforest. She has written for many magazines and newspapers, including National Geographic, Discover, the New York Times and Slate.
Marris, who earned an M.S. in writing from Johns Hopkins University and worked for many years as a reporter for the journal Nature, published her first book, Rambunctious Garden: Saving Nature in a Post-Wild World, in 2011. Marris has also done a TED Talk, “Nature is Everywhere—We Just Need to Learn to See It.”
