“Ella Swings Lightly: Celebrating Ella Fitzgerald’s Centennial Year”
Join us on October 7, 2017 as Randolph-Macon College hosts “Ella Swings Lightly: Celebrating Ella Fitzgerald’s Centennial Year” at 7:30 p.m. in Blackwell Auditorium, RMC Center for the Performing Arts (205 Henry St.). This event is free and open to the public. Map and Directions
Enjoy an evening celebrating jazz great Ella Fitzgerald featuring The Lovejoy Group. This concert draws from Fitzgerald’s 1958 recording, “Ella Swings Lightly,” which was arranged with power and swing by Marty Paich. The Lovejoy Group has reduced the size, kept the power, and amplified the swing to recreate Paich’s arrangements. They appear as part of East River Jazz, a Washington, D.C.- based jazz cultural preservation project.
This event is sponsored by the Randolph-Macon Music program and the Committee on Assemblies and Special Events (CASE).
