Arts Council of RMC Presents Award to RSO Executive Director
On April 30, 2017, the Arts Council of Randolph-Macon College presented its Award for Achievement in the Arts to David J.L. Fisk, executive director of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra.
The award presentation took place in Blackwell Auditorium, RMC Center for the Performing Arts, after which the Richmond Symphony Orchestra presented a Metro Collection Series concert featuring works by Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, and Stravinsky.
The Award for Achievement in the Arts was established by the Arts Council of Randolph-Macon College to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to Virginia’s cultural landscape and thus have helped the creative development of Randolph-Macon students, alumni, and friends as they expand their understanding and appreciation of the arts.
A pre-concert talk with RSO Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin, which was led by RMC Music Professor James Doering, took place in Brock Commons.
David J. L. Fisk
David Fisk joined the Richmond Symphony in 2002. Born in England and now a U.S. citizen, he previously served as CEO of the Ulster Orchestra, the national symphony of Northern Ireland, and of several other leading UK arts organizations. Under his direction, the Richmond Symphony has grown and flourished, anchored in Richmond at the Dominion Arts Center (which Fisk helped to create) but committed to a strong regional presence across Central Virginia, especially in the public schools. The Symphony’s vision to change lives through the power of music is one that Fisk has pursued throughout his career, as both a professional musician and creative manager.
