A Tradition of Generosity The Neville Family
In 1918, Harvey A. Neville graduated from R-MC and began a family tradition of leadership and support that continues today.
R-MC is honored to celebrate Harvey Neville and the family members who have followed in his footsteps. All are passionate about the liberal arts education that Randolph-Macon offers.
Harvey Neville earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from Princeton University, and in 1927 joined the faculty at Lehigh University, where he was head of the Chemistry Department. In 1961, he was elected president—the only faculty member to serve as president in the history of Lehigh. In 1952, Randolph-Macon awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree, and in 1984 the college named the Neville House in his honor.

His son, R. Geoffrey “Jeff” Neville St., a graduate of NEVILLE HOUSE Princeton University and Harvard University, was chairman of Concord Foods, which he founded in 1967 before turning over the reins to his son, Peter Neville. Jeff, Sr. served on Randolph-Macon’s Board of Trustees from 1999-2004 and with the help of a family friend, Carol Dudley Pritchett, is responsible for establishing the Harvey A. Neville Scholarship, Neville Family Fund and the Neville House Project all at Randolph-Macon.
Peter and his brother, Jeff, today continue the tradition of support started by their grandfather and father. Jeff Neville Jr., a member of R-MC’s Board of Trustees, recently supported the college’s new science building (Macon F. Brock, Jr. Hall) in honor of his grandfather, who was a chemistry major at R-MC. The Neville brothers also continue to generously support the Harvey A. Neville Scholarship, which has benefited countless students over the years.
Sady, Jeff Neville, Si: passed away September 30 as the magazine was going to press. The College will be forever grateful for his involvement, support and commitment to Randolph-Macon.
