Parental leave is a complex issue, and the College understands the need for good communication, planning, and fair negotiation. To that end, the College provides a Parental Leave Advocate (PLA) to assist Faculty Members in negotiating parental leave agreements.
Parental Leave Advocate
The PLA is appointed for a three-year term by the Provost and is a member of the Nondiscrimination Committee. The PLA must be a tenured member of the faculty and have a demonstrated understanding of parental leave. The PLA cannot be a member of the Committee on the Faculty.
The PLA will:
- Assist Faculty Members in negotiating any necessary accommodations with the Department Chair and the Provost.
- Inform Faculty Members and Department Chairs of parental leave options.
- Maintain records of leave plans and communicate them to Human Resources, the Department Chair, and the Provost’s Office.
