Beyond First Vibe – DM’s, Downloads & Dating: How the Internet Shapes Consent, Connection, and Red Flags

In a world where relationships often begin (and end) with a swipe, this interactive workshop explores how digital culture influences our beliefs about love, attraction, and consent. From red flags in the DMs to romanticized toxicity on social media, we’ll break down how online interactions can reinforce unhealthy norms—or open the door to manipulation. Students will examine common digital dating behaviors like breadcrumbing, love bombing, and revenge porn  threats, while also building critical media literacy around influencers, hookup culture, and how algorithms shape what we think is “normal.” Participants will leave with real-life strategies for asserting digital boundaries, spotting coercion, and unlearning toxic online scripts.
