The Randolph-Macon College IHSA Team welcomes riders of all levels.

Whether you’re an experienced rider or a novice, RMC’s IHSA Team offers you the chance to get involved in competitive riding in an intercollegiate setting.

The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) seeks to make equestrian competition available to any college student, without regard to the student’s financial resources, riding level, or show experience. At IHSA events, students compete in hunt seat equitation both on the flat and over fences, riding horses provided by the host college.

IHSA shows are fun and exciting, with competition at a range of levels from beginner (walk/trot) through experienced (open). Because points are awarded equally for place finishes at all levels, this is truly a sport where every member can make a difference for the team.

Equestrian Team members do not need to own a horse in order to compete, but riders may choose to bring their own horse and board at the Randolph-Macon Equestrian Center.

Policies and Fees

Members of the RMC Equestrian Team commit to a minimum of ten riding lessons per semester with our coaches and agree to participate in all horse shows and team activities to the best of their abilities.

Lesson fees are $550 per semester for ten lessons. (Additional lessons may be arranged directly with the coaches.) In addition, each team member pays IHSA dues (currently $45).

The college provides transportation to shows and pays the team’s travel costs and show entry fees and coaching fees.
