In-Person Auditions and Interviews

Technical Theater

Students interested in technical theater will be scheduled for an interview and should bring in materials showing what they have done in technical theater. It can be as much as a portfolio presentation, or as little as a conversation.  We are more interested in your desire to learn than your experience.

Acting

Students interested in acting will have an audition and interview. Bring a resume and headshot, and prepare one of the following two choices:

  1. Two contrasting monologues between one and two minutes long. One contemporary (from a play written after 1950) and one classic (from a play written before 1950, preferably with heightened language, such as Shakespeare, Moliere, Ancient Greek theatre). The mood of the pieces should be contrasting: one comic, the other darker and more serious.

OR

  1. One acting monologue between one and two minutes long, and one song. The monologue can be of any type, from any era, from a published play. The song can be any style of music: from musical theater, folk, rock, opera, etc. Please provide your own recorded accompaniment and equipment to play it.

The interview will be an open conversation with faculty about your experience, your goals, and your interests. If you have questions about the audition process, or questions about theatre at RMC, please reach out.

Online Auditions

While we’d love to meet you in person, we do accept virtual auditions. To start, please follow the instructions listed below to record your audition video. You’ll then upload your video in our Performing Arts Audition Form. To populate the video upload field, be sure to select ‘online audition’ in the Audition Information section of the form.

Video Instructions for Actors:

  • Perform two contrasting, fully memorized monologues. Each should be between 1-2 minutes in length. Contrasting means they differ in a significant way to show your acting range, such as: one comedic and one dramatic OR one classical piece (pre-1850 e.g. Shakespeare, Moliere, Ancient Greek theatre) and one contemporary piece.
  • Optional for singers: ADD 32 bars of a song in addition to your 2 monologues, OR perform one monologue + 32 bars of a song. You may sing with recorded/live accompaniment or a cappella.

Your video should be a single, continuous take. No edits.
