All principal investigators must obtain CITI certification before they can apply for IRB approval.  CITI certificates are no longer required to be submitted with applications – the IRB Chairperson will confirm valid CITI certification at the time a proposal is submitted.

Students may not serve as a principal investigator on any project at Randolph-Macon College.  All Principal Investigators must be College employees.  

Student-Generated Human Subject Research

For “Student-Generated Human Subject Research” the PI should submit the following documents, preferably in a single PDF document.  The submission must come from the PI’s Randolph-Macon College email address.  All forms can be found on the “IRB Forms and Policies” link to the left. 

  • Student-Generated Application Form
  • Student-Generated Protocol Form
  • Student-Generated Abstract Form
  • Informed Consent Standard Template

The IRB Chairperson will confirm that the Principal Investigator has completed CITI certification when the application is received. 

Faculty-Generated Human Subject Research

For “Faculty-Generated Human Subject Research” you should submit the following documents.  A single pdf is preferred.  The submission should come from the Primary Investigator’s Randolph-Macon e-mail address.  All forms can be found on the “IRB Forms and Policies” link to the left of this page. 

  • Faculty-Generated Application Form
  • Faculty-Generated Protocol Form
  • Faculty-Generated Abstract Form
  • Informed Consent Standard Template
  • Copy of CV/Resume for everyone involved in the study
  • Attachment C for all co-investigators / staff
  • Recruitment materials (if applicable)

The IRB Chairperson will confirm valid CITI certification for all research staff upon receipt of the application.  Faculty or staff members who are CITI certified through other institutions should provide a copy of their certification certificate as part of the application.
