Housing Selection Processes

Below is a list of important dates for our current students that include when applications will be made available, application deadlines, off campus waivers, and lottery draw times.

All applications will be made available to students online at the Residence Life website as well as in the Office of Residence Life located in the second floor of the Brock Commons. Students can apply for more than one housing option for the upcoming school year. If a student is selected for more than one housing option they will need to sign an agreement stating which option they would like within 24 hours of being selected.

In order to be eligible for on campus housing for the upcoming year students must be cleared with the Business Office. If you have any questions you can contact Wendy Farmer at 804.752.3136. Remember that it can take up to 10 days for a payment to be cleared.

For students who will be studying abroad in the fall please note the College will not be able to hold spaces in any on campus housing while you are abroad. Those students studying abroad in the fall will be guaranteed housing when they return to R-MC in the spring.

The 2018-2019 General Housing Lottery for Returning Students has already occurred. Check back in early 2019 for next years housing selection dates!

 

General Housing Information

This is the College's general room selection process for returning students. The majority of our returning students are housed through this process. Students will be sent a lottery number that will explain the process for the general room selection. Students should make plans to attend the general room selection event to choose their room.

Special Interest Houses

For the 2018-2019 year, the College has the International House and the Pre-Health House available. The deadline to join these houses has passed. Please return in early 2019 for information for the 2019-2020 Special Interest Housing Selection Process.  

Apartment Selection

(Birdsong Residence Hall and Traditional Townhouse Apartments - Flippo, Cochrane, Clements and Birdsong)

Apartment-style housing is for rising seniors and selection will occur via an application process. The application process for 2018-2019 is now complete. Please return in early 2019 for information on the process for 2019-2020.

Disability Accommodations

The Director of Disability Services (DS) will review requests for housing accommodations and meal plan adjustments for students with disabilities. If reasonable housing accommodations cannot be immediately satisfied due to capacity, facility design, availability, etc., the Office of Residence Life will prioritize requests before handling others.

Students wishing to make a meal plan request must first meet with the Director of Dining Services prior to submitting any requests.

Page one should be completed by the student, and page two should be completed by the student’s practitioner.  Students and practitioners are welcome to attach additional information/documentation if needed, but incomplete applications will not be considered. 

The Director of DS evaluates all requests housing accommodations and meal plan adjustments carefully. 

The deadline for students applying for special housing and dining accommodations (air conditioning, medical or dietary needs) was April 1, 2018. Check back in early 2019 for updated information for the 2019-2020 school year. Students must complete appropriate paperwork at the Office of Disability Support Services in order to be considered for housing and dining accommodations . EARLY ROOM SELECTION - Mary Branch Pocket and Triple Room Selection

The Mary Branch Pocket Lottery is a lottery system for groups of students who are interested in living together in a community in Mary Branch.  Each floor of MB has a pocket on each side of the stairwells. You can apply as a same gender group of 6 or a group of 8 (we have both size pockets of the hall available). More information will be available prior to the general room selection in Spring 2019.

If you are interested in a triple room in Mary Branch, Conrad or Moreland, more information will be available prior to the general room selection in Spring 2019.

Off Campus Waivers

Randolph-Macon College requires that all students live in College-owned residence halls unless they are:

  • Residing with their parents, guardians, or spouses within a 35 mile commuting distance of R-MC as verified by the parent or guardian
  • 23 years of age or older; part-time students with eight or fewer semester hours
  • Have received a special waiver granted by the Office of Disability Support & Services for those students who have special medical or personal considerations, which must be accommodated (documentation is required)

Due to capacity constraints, there will be times when the College will permit other students to move off-campus. When this permission is given, the criteria for students selected will be based on class seniority and will be regulated by the Office of Residence Life. The authorization to live off-campus will be granted for that particular academic year only. A waiver must be signed and approved in the Office of Residence Life for every student living off-campus. Waivers may be revoked at any time due to the unacceptable behavior of that student. If this Residence Requirement Waiver is not completed and approved by the College, the student will be billed for room and board as a residential student.

Students who wish to request an off campus waiver and meet the criteria listed above should complete the Off-Campus Waiver Form by April 1, 2018. Only current students can fill out this form.

Students who wish to request an off campus waiver and do not meet the criteria listed above should submit a written request to Carol Bailey by emailing her at carolbailey@rmc.edu  by April 1, 2018. The Director of Residence Life will review all requests and determine those to be approved.
