Borrowing privileges are extended to Randolph-Macon College (R-MC) students, faculty, and staff. Retired R-MC faculty and staff, R-MC alumni in Hanover and adjacent counties, and Hanover County teachers may apply for a card free of charge. 

In addition, any adult resident of Hanover County, or an adjacent county, may purchase a library card at a cost of $25 for the first year and $10 per year thereafter. A current driver's license or photo ID must be presented at the Circulation Desk when applying.

Renewing Books: You can renew any materials you have checked out via the library catalog.

  1. Navigate over to the library catalog, MaconCat
  2. In the upper right corner, use your ID number for "Login:"
  3. If you've never logged in before, your password will be CHANGEME
  4. Click Account Activities in the gray bar and select Renew My Materials
  5. Mark the items you wish to renew and click Renew Selected Items

You can also renew items by calling the Circulation Desk at 752-7257

ID Card:  A current library card (or student/faculty ID) is required for every circulation transaction. 

Loan Periods:  Loan periods vary depending on both the type of user and the type of material being borrowed, as shown in the following table (user type across the top, material type on the side):

Renewals:  Students and community members are limited to two renewals on all material. Faculty are limited to a single renewal with the exception of books. Once renewed, materials may be subject to recall. Items with holds on them cannot be renewed.

Returns: Materials should be returned directly to the circulation desk. If the library is closed materials may be returned to Campus Safety.

Overdue Fines & Costs for Replacement:  Students and community patrons are subject to fines for any overdue material, according to the following table:

Items will continue to accumulate fines regardless of whether the library is open. McGraw-Page Library circulates overdue notices via email. Notices are a courtesy and failure to receive one does not constitute the waiving of any incurred fines. 

Any item that is not returned by Spring Commencement is listed as lost and a replacement charge is automatically assessed. Fines are not added to this replacement cost. The table below lists the charge for each type of material. Donated items will not be accepted in lieu of the replacement charge, which covers processing as well as item costs.

Holds: Patrons may use the library catalog to sign into their MaconCat account and place a hold on items that are currently checked out; they will be notified by email when the item is returned, and it will be held at the Circulation Desk for seven days. The Place Hold link is on the left of the Item Details screen. Items with holds on them are not eligible for renewal. Please note that patrons are not allowed to place a hold on an item if it is in the Library.

Borrower Confidentiality:  Under Virginia state law, library patron records (as well as circulation transactions) are protected as confidential information. We will not disclose any information concerning your library registration or circulation activities to anyone.
