Pre-Vet Alumni Success Stories

Randolph-Macon alumni in graduate school, and those with healthcare careers all agree: their R-MC education paved the way for their success. Through a challenging curriculum, one-on-one attention from professors who truly care, and a dedicated staff, the R-MC experience prepares students for success.

  • Amanda Steinagel ’11, DVM

Steinagel, who majored in biology and minored in psychology and chemistry at R-MC, earned her DVM from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

She was motivated to pursue her graduate degree by the research experiences she had at R-MC. “I did research in the neuroscience lab and also researched avian fertility,” she says. For her capstone thesis, Steinagel investigated the behavior and stress responses in dogs, and she also conducted survey research at the Martin Marietta Field Site and in the Florida Keys with Professor Grace Lim-Fong, who was also her academic advisor.  “She was amazing and helped me get to where I am today,” says Steinagel, who advises students to work hard, get involved in campus activities, and conduct research. “Ask questions, and be willing to invest the appropriate time for your studies,” she says. “It will pay off!”
