Students interested in pursuing veterinary medicine as a career goal should follow the pre-vet track at Randolph-Macon College. The pre-vet track follows very closely to the pre-med track; however, pre-vet track students are encouraged to pursue shadowing and internship opportunities with veterinary professionals. They are also given guidance about the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) and how best to prepare for it. Students in this track are strongly encouraged to start looking at the veterinary programs they are interested in as soon as possible. Veterinary school pre-requisites are similar, but they do vary from program to program. As long as students complete the pre-requisites for the programs they are interested in applying to, they are free to pursue whichever major they choose.

Randolph-Macon students who pursue careers in veterinary medicine go on to careers that focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, disorder and injury in animals. The scope of veterinary medicine is wide, covering all animal species, both domesticated and wild.
