A knowledge of the greatest works of art and architecture from artists of the past and present is essential to understanding intellectual directions and values that are demonstrated in a diversity of civilizations. Through an interdisciplinary approach to art within its social context, students learn about artistic expressions in both the western and non-western world, and develop an appreciation of aesthetic similarities and differences within their proper historical perspectives.
