You Are Here
Just 90 miles south of Washington, DC, and minutes outside of Richmond, Randolph-Macon College is ideally located in the scenic town of Ashland, Virginia — affectionately known as "the Center of the Universe" by those who live here. It's easy to get here, and once you've arrived, you'll find an inviting campus environment and an active, involved community.
Community: A busy campus community life plus friendly people equal an ideal college environment. Here, students build lifelong friendships with each other and enduring relationships with faculty mentors.
Arts & culture: The R-MC calendar of events includes theatre, music and film as well as a full schedule of visiting artists, writers, scholars, leaders, and public figures. Nearby Richmond offers such attractions as the world-class Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the annual Richmond Folk Festival, which welcomes musicians from around the world.
Recreation: When it's time for a break from the books, there's always plenty to do around here, on campus and off. Major and local retailers and restaurants and a 20-screen movie theatre can be found in Ashland or just south along Route 1, and Richmond offers many more options, including the popular Carytown shopping district. The athletically inclined can take advantage R-MC's Brock Recreation Center, mountain biking in nearby Poor Farm Park, or the hiking, biking and waterways of the James River Park system in Richmond.
History: The central Virginia region has seen some of the nation's most important historical moments, from the founding of Jamestown to Patrick Henry's stirring "Give me liberty" speech in St. John's Church to Revolutionary and Civil War battles. Randolph-Macon itself was founded in 1830, celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2005. Three buildings on the campus are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
