FYEC 135 - 136 - The Drug Trade - Drugs, both legal and illegal, permeate today's society. Students will learn about the chemistry behind how drugs are made and how they produce their desired effects. In addition, students will focus on the social problems and critical debates associated with both legal and illegal drugs in the U.S. Specifically, students will address issues of inequality, power, and political influence as they relate to the availability and distribution of pharmaceutical drugs, the ways in which drug use is defined and judged in society, and how certain debates, such as universal health care, are framed within the media.
